Nature Hub Liška

Liška workplace is located in the small town of Bílovice nad Svitavou on the outskirts of Brno, surrounded by forests and hills. Bílovice are very easy to reach from Brno by train—the ride takes about 10 minutes and trains run approximately every 20 minutes. Thanks to this, Bílovice are often more accessible than many residential parts of Brno outside the city center, while still being right next to beautiful nature.
Our main directions are sports, tourism and outdoor education, followed by crafts, arts and hands-on activities. Most of our sports and outdoor programs take place in the surrounding landscape. A key specialty of our workplace is our speleology (caving) club—we regularly go with children to caves and teach them about safe movement underground, basic orientation, teamwork, and respect for nature.
We also have a strong and growing STEAM direction (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics). We run practical groups such as photo activities, electrical workshops, small DIY/maker projects, cooking group, rescuers, parkour, and more. We are developing and expanding activities that connect creativity with technology—especially our Creativity Club with Artificial Intelligence and robotics / technical workshops. This is an important future direction for Liška, and we would be very happy if the volunteer has experience or interest in STEAM, for example robotics, electronics, programming, maker activities, or using AI tools in a safe and educational way.
Liška is a small workplace, but volunteering here is not new for us. Many of our children already have experience with international volunteers and every year they look forward to meeting a new one. Thanks to that, having a volunteer is not a shock for them—they tend to be more open, less nervous, and generally not afraid to communicate and spend time with the volunteer.

The volunteer's role

During the school year, the volunteer would participate mainly by assisting in clubs and their preparation (outdoor sports in nature, DIY/maker activities, cooking club, and also STEAM-oriented activities such as AI creativity and robotics where possible). The activities will also include preparation and support of one-off events such as “Liška nikdy nespí”, neighborhood celebrations, Christmas workshops, Martin’s celebrations, sleepovers, and short suburban camps.

English communication skills are needed.

Work schedule of the volunteer

30 hours weekly:

  • 20 hours of work for Liška
  • 2 hours meetings with coordinator and other ESC-ers - time you spent
with your ESC coordinator discussing your work and planning the future

  • Up to 5 hours for your Mini project - time you spend on preparing your
    own mini project/s

Days off and holidays:

We offer to our volunteers the following kind of support: At each workplace, one of our workers will be your tutor – a guide and adviser who will help you during the whole project. You will be also provided with all the material of a particular workplace. If you like you can also visit other activities at Lidicka, Liška or in other branches of Luzanky.

General description of volunteering project in Luzanky:

There are 8 ESC volunteers working at different places on individual projects, meeting every week on common meetings with the coordinator and from time to time with all the colleagues to evaluate and plan the project. Luzanky hosts and coordinates ESC volunteers also in other organizations (focused on environmental education, preschool education etc.), so all hosted and coordinated volunteers will meet during the project and can visit workplaces and events of each other.

The volunteers work also together with the coordinator on tasks connected with their integration into Luzanky and presentation of their presence in our organization. Those tasks will be mainly related to the promotion of Solidarity corps program.

Volunteers can visit some of the courses and events organized by Luzanky for free (circus training for adults, ceramics etc.).

The organization will host only volunteers older than 18 years old.

Days off and holidays: volunteers have 2 days a week free (weekend) + 2 days per month of paid vacation. While working occasionally on weekends they have extra days off during the week. The paid vacation days are used usually during Christmas time and spring/summer school break.

Allowances:
Volunteers get their pocket money and food allowance monthly (at the beginning of each month), and they are provided with a card for Brno public transport.

Accommodation:
Volunteers live in rented flats (not in the centre of the city), it can happen that two volunteers will share one room for a shorter period of time (a few months). There will be 4 volunteers in the flat with 4 bedrooms. There is no living room, only common space/eating area in the kitchen. Distance to your working place from the flat can be around 30 minutes by public transport, even a bit more. Getting affordable accommodation in Brno is very difficult in recent years, so please be ready for described conditions of accommodation if you apply to our project. The advantage for you is that you will stay in quite a big city, which offers cultural and other events for young people, some even in English or other languages.
